Tech Index

The SARTA Technology Index™ is an innovative tool that measures the health of the regional technology economy by tracking 50 leading high tech and life science companies driving its growth. Just as the S&P 500 acts as a bellwether for corporate America, the Technology Index™ is a barometer of how technology companies in the Sacramento region are performing.

3rd Quarter 2010 Results

The SARTA Technology Index grew by 7.0 percent in the third quarter of 2010 to an all-time high of 308.3.  In the third quarter, all major components of the Tech Index performed well:  public company valuations increased nearly 13% on average; private-company employers closed the quarter with 3.7% more employees; and venture capital investment in private companies totaled more than $18M for the year.

Beyond simply a single strong quarter, in 2010 to-date, two of the three quarters reported results solidly in positive territory, and two of the three also reached new highs for the Tech Index.  The middle, second quarter showed some weakness, pulling back slightly form the strong result in Q1, due largely to decreased valuations at publicly traded companies.
