MedStart

Building on the success of its CleanStart program, SARTA announces MedStart, a new initiative in medical technology.

MedStart will help build and strengthen a healthy medical technology industry in the Greater Sacramento Region and strive to be a repository of information and expertise for our vital medical technology sector.  Claire Pomeroy, Vice Chancellor of UC Davis Human Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine, kicked off the Lead Sponsor campaign with a pledge of $12,500. Cary Adams, retired health care attorney and long time SARTA Board member, serves as the Committee Chair and Laura Good recently joined SARTA as the MedStart Program Director.  The Advisory Committee meets monthly and is comprised of a team of experts in the Health Care and Medical Technology industry.

"We believe that our region is rapidly developing as a thriving center for medical devices, diagnostics, and medical information technology, including telemedicine.” said Adams.  “The med-tech companies that grow here will not only create jobs, revenue, and wealth in our region, they will help save costs in the national healthcare market by improving efficiency, safety and efficacy.  There’s a lot of room for improvement on all of those fronts.”

Also established, is the MedStart CEO Forum which includes CEOs from over 10 local med-tech companies as well as industry experts and venture capitalists.  Future MedStart plans include a Strategic Planning Kick-Off in October which will include participation by Lead Sponsors, a networking event in Q1 of 2009 and a Business Plan Competition in 2H 2009.
