CleanStart Presents:
Sacramento's Million Gallon Challenge: Better Biofuels for the Region

The Sacramento region, the community in California that has been a national leader in renewables and efficiency, has set a new goal to pioneer a switch from oil to biofuels.  The key is creating a market for third-generation biofuels, going beyond ethanol and grease-based biodiesel.  These are improved fuels made from non-food sources that are more compatible with existing vehicles and service stations.  As a part of a broad-based regional initiative called “Greenwise”, the region set a goal to buy significant volumes of these new biofuels in order to get them into wide commercial use and to build a local biofuels industry, intending to ride a new wave into the future.  The goal is to start with a million gallons per year and then a million gallons per month.

This topic will be one of several covered in depth at the upcoming Sacramento Clean Tech Showcase October 24 on the campus of Sacramento State.  See www.cleantechshowcase.org for more details.
